Railway Station AEDs

Categories : ,

We have pledged in excess of £100,000 for the purchase of Automatic External Defibrillators (AEDs) to be installed at rail stations across the Southern Railway network. We have worked in partnership with Southern Railway purchasing and installing over 70 AEDs, making this one of the largest concentrations of AEDs on any railway network – certainly in the UK.

March 2016 saw the unveiling of the first AED and since then devices have steadily been introduced, to make the Sussex railway network one of the safest, should anyone suffer a cardiac arrest.

SHC is proud to know that our work is actively saving lives.  A rail passenger at East Grinstead station in late 2018 was successfully resuscitated. This proves that the project has brought real benefit and helps to safeguard railway passengers throughout the Southern Rail network.

Since the installation of the 70 SHC funded defibrillators, Southern Railway and their parent company Govia Thameslink Railway have committed to continue the project and install AEDs at every station served by their trains.

The Rt Hon Sir Nicholas Soames MP, Maria Caulfield MP and the Rt Hon Amber Rudd MP have all expressed their interest and admiration for the project.

On the 21st June 2019 we demonstrated one the life-saving AEDs at Lewes station in support of MP Maria Caulfield’s Private Member’s Bill to make it law that AEDs should be funded and installed in every school and sports centre.
